Why a heart ultrasound may be requested
A cardiologist may advise echocardiography after reviewing symptoms, examination findings, an ECG or a known heart condition.
The test can provide information about heart pumping function, valve movement and the size and structure of the heart. Results should be interpreted in the context of the patient’s overall clinical condition.
Please confirm test availability and location when booking, as some investigations may be arranged at a hospital or diagnostic facility.
Common reasons to book
- Breathlessness or swelling
- Heart murmur or valve assessment
- Heart pumping-function assessment
- Follow-up after a cardiac event
- Monitoring a known structural heart condition
